Admittedly, it’s been quiet around the blog. I needed to take some time to plan out the release of the newsletter, the content for the blog, and my approach to my writing career, as a whole. I want the next phase of Colston’s Desk to have a strong foundation. That said, I’m taking more time to prepare the launch of the newsletter, as well as consider the long-term growth strategy for all of my writing projects, including this blog.
Building the Newsletter
I’m still working on the build-out for the Colston’s Desk Newsletter. I want to provide the best possible quality for the premier of the publication. Therefore, I’m going to push the initial release from April 1, 2026 to May 1, 2026. Part of the reason for this has to do with increasing the scope and content of the newsletter. I’m currently working on creating a unique offering that will only be available to subscribers to the periodical. I’ll have more information on this as the overall design of the newsletter takes shape.
Writing for the Blog
While addressing the broader scope of my writing career, I won’t forget about content for the blog. I’m working on an analysis of the war between the U.S. and Iran. I’ll be taking a look at the cause for the war, the objectives of the actors in the conflict, the current situation of the standoff, and likely outcomes that could arise from the multi-national confrontation.
Embracing the Journey
When I started this blog, I had no idea what I wanted to write about. I just knew that I wanted to write. I started out by publishing some story scenes that I had written as responses to writing prompts. I then added some of my poetry to my blog. Following those releases, I started writing reviews of video games and the gaming industry, including fun challenges for gameplay. I even added an article that analyzed song lyrics. Eventually, I decided to write about political and economic items that I was researching for my own education and growth. That process led me to build out my long-held ideas about what I would eventually call “The People’s Parliament“.
Most writing advice tells aspiring content creators to find a niche. This presents a particular problem for me because I have a broad set of interests. And I both consume content for all of those interests and form ideas based on those experiences. Perhaps one day I will find a niche. For now, I am focused on the journey of honing my natural writing talent by training my technical skill with the crafting of content based on topics that I find engaging. This means that a significant portion of this growth phase for Colston’s Desk will be built while I execute. Thanks for being patient, while the transformation takes place. I believe the content that I’ll provide will be worth the turbulence.
I want to share my ideas with the world. I believe that my perspectives will provide value to the larger conversation around humanitarian issues, art, and entertainment. Will I eventually end up in a silo, discussing a narrow set of topics? Who knows?
As of now, I’m creating based on what inspires me. And I’m enjoying the ride.
